Created as a custom commission based around personal life artifacts with the prompt was to create a guardian sculpture for the outdoor space.
Using different techniques and looking at the given pieces to be incorporated, it was clear to me this guardian was to be representative of Gaia, the personification of Mother Earth.
A skirt of metal taken from deep within the earth, reformatted to be fluid like water and honoring the tradition of woven arts, a fluorite crystal at her sacral center signifying the power of her intuition, a portal pane of stained glass so she may see clear with her heart, and a head of abalone shell with ears of sliced geode so she is able to hear and tune into the frequencies of the planet. Her hair is swept up into the wind, showing her integration with her space and she has broad shoulders to carry the wisdom of the ages.
Pictured here are attached ribbons with messages of Love and Compassion, tied on to flow in the breeze, carrying their sentiments to the ether.
